What if you happen to be the proud owner of an enormous amount of money? Being very wealthy means you can really push the boat out. If you’re curious about exactly what unlimited amounts of money can buy in the way of diamonds, gold, and the world’s best jewellery designers, here are some of the planet’s most expensive, exclusive and impressive rings.

Anna Kournikova’s huge pink diamond engagement ring

This stunner of an engagement ring from Argyle jewellers was given to Anna Kournikova by her wealthy fiancé Enrique Iglesias at a cost of $2.5 million, just under £2,000,000 in our money. It features an enormous, super-rare 11-carat pink pear-cut diamond in the centre, flanked by two extraordinary trillian diamonds. A trillian cut is a triangular stone with three equal sides and either 31 or 50 facets, depending on whether they’re being used as solitaire or accent stones. Trillian solitaires are usually convex cut and accent stones are usually either concave or un-curved.

The extraordinary Blue Diamond ring

The world’s most expensive wedding ring is so large, so utterly beautiful that it’s hard to believe it is real. Designed by the fine Italian luxury brand Bvlgari, it sold in early spring 2013 for $9.49 million, roughly £7.19 million. The attraction here is the amazing 5.30 carat blue diamond, an enormous stone surrounded by a series of large, premium quality brilliant and baguette-cut diamonds.

The Pink Star – Officially the world’s most expensive ring

The Pink Star diamond weighs in at a remarkable 59.60 carat, cut from an even bigger 132.50-carat rough in 2013 and originally dug up by diamond experts De Beers in Africa almost two decades ago. It has been sold and re-sold several times but 2017 saw it sold to the Hong Kong jeweller Chow Tai Fook. The biggest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid diamond ever graded by the GIA, it went for a hard-to-imagine $71.2 million at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, more than £53 million. It’s a record breaker, being both the most expensive ring in the world and the biggest-value gemstone sold at auction.

Elizabeth Taylor’s elegantly simple engagement ring

At almost seven million pounds, Elizabeth Taylor’s wonderful three stone engagement ring was given to the actress by her two-times husband Richard Burton. It is a masterpiece in the art of pure simplicity, being a single, magical stone claw set for elegance and supported by two large baguette cut stones, one at either side. .The pure, transparent Asscher-cut Krupp diamond it features weighs an impressive 33.19 carats and the ring was ultimately sold by Christies to an Asian collector in 2011 for $8.8 million.

Mariah Carey’s breathtaking 35 carat engagement ring

At a couple more carats than Liz Taylor’s, Mariah Carey’s engagement ring was given to her by the billionaire James Packer. It’s a 35-carat marvel in diamonds and platinum, worth around $13 million dollars or so. Sadly diamonds don’t always mean a happy ending, and Mariah sold the ring when the couple broke up for a cool $2.1 million. Never mind… next time around, thanks to her engagement to Nick Cannon, she was given an equally lovely 10-carat pink diamond ring featuring extra pink and white diamonds around the edge, totalling 17 carats.

Equally gorgeous… and a lot more affordable!
